Money saving tips for your mobile phone bill

Ending up with bad debt is often the result of poor financial planning and the importance of having a budget cannot be overstressed; however, even if you have a budget plan, it does not mean that you are not wasting money on unnecessary expenditure.

Take your monthly mobile phone bill for example. If you are paying more than £15 a month, you are probably paying too much, because the cheapest plan that includes unlimited minutes, unlimited text messages and a very useful 2Gb of data per month only costs £15.

The important thing is to match your needs to the deal you sign up for. Do not pay for what you don’t need, and find the cheapest deal for what you do need.

If you are struggling to make ends meet, there is no reason to pay more than this just to have a flashy new handset or to get unlimited data transfer.

If you really want a fancy phone, it’s often much cheaper to pay cash and then sign up for a sim-only deal with your network provider.

If your contract is nearing its end, haggle with your network provider for a better deal. A poll conducted in November last year showed that 73% of Virgin Mobile customers were able to negotiate a better deal, followed by EE (67%) and Vodafone (65%).

Last but not least, you could insure your whole family’s phones for £10 per month at Nationwide, while many other providers charge £10 per phone.
